How to Save on Super Lean Meat

Okay so we all have this problem. It is nearly impossible to coupon on Meat, Produce, and Bread. I have found a great way to save on meat but you need to go with me on this and read this whole post before you judge.

Recently my husband decided he wanted to cut meat out of our diet for awhile for health reasons. He wants to continue losing weight and lower his A1C level for his diabetes which has already fallen down to pre-diabetic levels. So he has been reading studies on how cutting animal products down can help diabetics be healthier.

We are not giving up our cheese but we are giving up our milk for soy milk and our meat for Morningstar and Boca products. I was a little freaked at first because I thought that would make our budget go up but it DOES NOT! For the same amount I spent on regular meat I can get more Boca and Morning Star products! And I think they taste awesome!

We had tacos last with Morningstar meatless crumbles. Oh my goodness! They were the best tacos i've ever had! The crumbles absorb ALL the flavor.

No Space for Stockpiling

Here is the age old problem in my house...no space! I love in a 1200 sft home. I have a 600 sft basement but I can't put anything but can goods and frozen stuff in my freezer down there at risk of any bug problems so i'm trying to make room. I'm going to put up for sale on Craiglist sometime today all my little appliances I don't use anymore like my pancake maker, ice cream maker etc. I need cash for groceries the next two weeks as this is the tightest part of the month for us and our Daughter's birthday is around the corner. Anyway...I need to get rid of some stuff and get some space together for all my goodies. We have a large-yet small pantry area in addition to our kitchen area. However 80% of the pantry area has our fine China, regular dishes etc. Other 20% has Nutrisystem food in it that my husband is finishing off slowly. We use more of the Weight Watcher frozen meals now, they taste better and are way cheaper! Anyway, this weekend my goal is to clean one entire cabinet of stuff we don't need. List it for sale on Craigslist and hopefully sell it!

As part of a new initiative to help its customers stay healthy Publix is giving away FREE supplies of metformin, the generic verison of Glucophage, a common diabetes medicine. On average, a Publix pharmacy customer with no insurance would pay $21 monthly for Metformin. So this means a savings of over $250 a year! This isn't a one time deal, you can get a FREE 30 day supply of either 500, 800 or 1,000mg doses and there is no limit to how many refills you can get!

This is in addition to the program that Publix has offered for the past few years where it provides FREE 14day supply of 8 common antibiotics. Okay, I found this Gillette clinical sport deodorant today in an endcap and I asked the manager if this was considered trial because it was .5 oz she said " no" because it was not in their trial section and it was retailed for $1.79. SO I used the $3.00/1 gillette clinical sport deodorant coupon in the 2/21 PG; and then I paired it with the Buy any Gillette deodorant get Gillette Body Wash for Free coupon in 3/7 PG.
So since I was able to get overage on the deodorant I added other items to cover the difference.

Why do I grab so many freebies and cheap deals

Why?...because I can't afford not to. Some of you may be living off a solid income, but i'm not. We are a 1 income family and we cannot afford to pass up on the freebies and cheap deals after rewards at CVS, Wags, and Publix. I grab up all the free tooth paste, toothbrushes, deoterant, body wash, razor,lotion etc...because if not we would be using dollar store brand because we cannot afford the good stuff. My hubby uses 1 shampoo a month and 1 body wash a month, that is at least $10 a month or $120 a year on premium brand stuff. We have a 11month old that goes through 10 diapers per day so when Wags or CVS does a diaper deal with reward dollars we grab up our Q's and run over because in the long run, it is cheaper to do this than buying the big boxes from Sam's or Costco. We spend maybe $15 on 3 weeks worth od diapers vs $40 for a month. We did not renew our warehouse membership this year, did not seem worth it. I borrow friend's cards to go grab a few things I can;t get elsewhere.

Anyway, just felt like expressing why I coupon so hard. I just have to. But it saves me more than money, it saves me time. I no longer have to spend half a Saturday going to Costco, Walmart, Aldi and all the grocery stores in town to get as many deals as I can. i run up to Wags and CVS which are right next to each other and hope over to Publix...all 3-5 minutes from my home. I often run up to Wags, CVS and Publix after I put my daughter to bed, gives my hubby an hour of video game time and gives me a chance to get my shopping fix. I don't miss precious time with my girl and most of the time I only go to one store so I am probably only gone 30 minutes each trip, over the week i'm gone half the time I would normally spend out on a Saturday.

Have you had one of those days? I have. My daughter woke up twice in the night and I just felt like pooh all day at work. Now i'm trying to get all the finances in order this week and set my grocery list and coupons up so I can do some MAD COUPONING this weekend and I finally had to stop. My husband's laptop is the only computer we can print from right now so unfortunately i only get coupons from one computer even though we have 3! Well I did great as far as grocery savings but BAD in eating out. I'm taking the "No Eating Out in March Challenge" at Couponing to Disney...

I spent $249 and change on Groceries in February. I pulled my bank statement on my break so I don't know the total savings, i'm going to assume it is close to $800. I will post the saving tonight as I would LOVE to know myself.

I am a bit down...between paying for my tax service, paying to get out of my storage unit and the truck to haul everything to my house, and a big family event that took me out of town for 3 days I went over budget for this month on gas, eating out and misc expenditures.

I spent a total of $251.89 on eating out! AH!!!!!!!!!! Misc expenditures and gas total close to $300!! AH!!!!!

I am commiting to not eating out in March, I doubt i'll make it but my goal is for my family to eat out only as necessity to make up for the loss in February in those areas. Luckily I saved enough in groceries and HBA that i'm not in debt!

So I took my parents with my to Publix to see what couponing is all about and how much you can save. i had my $5 off $30 Publix Q with me and was using a few of my $4 Knox Q's before they expire. Well, I have definitely decided I will no longer get in a line with a cashier I do not know. This lady was determined to screw me. Seriously, we all know when you have a "$ off $ purchase" Q, that Q is BEFORE other Q's, especially when I say, please put this one in first!!

She did not put that $5 off Q in, she set is aside and asked me for my other coupons. I handed them to her and when she got to the Knox, she said I couldn't use them. I politely said I had already spoke with management about these Q's and they were legitimate but she was welcome to check with them. So she huffed off and came back, didn't say a word and just scanned them. Then she proudly told me my total was too low to use my $5 off Q. I politely told her she was suppose to use that before manufacturer Q's but I would use it later. UGH!

Why i'm I made to look like i'm stealing or trying to cheat!?!?!?! I never illegally copy Q's, I never try to get away with something I shouldn't.

Okay so i'm already mad because I was treated like a thief but I get home and study my receipt and the cashier did not scan one of my Knox coupons...that is a $4 mistake! Ah!

I quickly called the manager and was very polite, did not mention the cashier's attitude and he was very apologetic. Told me he was making a note of it in their office log so if he was not there when I came back, someone else would refund me my $4.

Not all cashiers are like this. Publix has some great cashiers and so does Wags too.

Two days in a row the cashier at Wags missed a Q scanning...it is an honest mistake, sometimes the machine doesn't take it. So please CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS! I had to go back today to get my $4 from the Airwick Q and while I was there I grab some more deals, another one of my Q's got missed and one of my RR's didn't print.
